The history of Venda Football Club can be traced back to a team from the North West province, Platinum Stars FC.
Platinum Stars was founded in 1998 as a descendant of Khakhu Fast XI and participated in the Premier Soccer League.
In the 2017/18 season, the team was relegated to the National First Division where they were then bought by a Cape Town based club Cape Umoya United Football Club.
After playing three seasons in the NFD, Cape Umoya was sold and purchased before the start of the 2021/22 season, by businessman Robinson Ramaite who acquired their status for Venda Football Academy, moving the club to Venda in Limpopo.
The club was renamed from Venda Football Academy to Venda Football Club ahead of the 2023/24 National First Division season.
As it stands, Venda Football Club plays in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
